First cut: Producers notes for the filmmakers

  • Music too high and on the nose – try new music that isn’t so obvious – second cue works.
  • The moment after he says I love is too long before the kiss and feels a bit weird, trim down.

Well shot and his performance was great. Tighten up the edit and lower the music.

Sound needs to be turned down by a fair few notches. Performance are good but would have liked to seen a few wide shots. Think it will help with the story to include the other character more. Not sure about some of the framing but a tighter edit and some improvements with the sound will distract from that. It's pretty good overall, just could do with a few tinks and turning the sound down

Thanks for the comments. Definitely going to re-work the sound as we did run out of time to focus on that aspect. Appreciate your comments.

Pretty good all round and agree about the sound. Some shots are a bit dark but I love the story line.

I thought this was really charming and the end was not what I expected (it made me chuckle). The music volume could be a tad lower and maybe start with a wider shot panning in, at the beginning. Joe could have held Beryl in his gaze more constantly, rather than flicking back and forth between the two actresses. Just needs a bit of tweaking, but the essence needs no change at all.

I agree with the above, also I feel the shot at 2:21 of Beryl's face gives the punch line away, and kind of ruined the ending for me. Didn't know the script at all, but as soon as that shot came up I knew what was going to happen, so the knitting and the wait after felt so dragged out, I think it's the slightly cheeky expression of the actress, raised eyebrows, it says 'got ya' rather than being lost in memory of the previous scene. Great work though.

Thought this entry told the story well. The sound certainly needs working and the beginning needs some atmos.

Lovely - funny and touching. Shame we didn't see more of a certain book - subtle is good but that is perhaps a bit too subtle a glimpse of it. Sound could be improved. Great performances and super idea.

Audio really lets it down, it's too loud and there's also a lot of hiss and hum.

Really liked the subdued tone in the acting of this one. Sound is obviously problematic, which has been noted at length. I also thought it was awkward the way the supporting actress (can't think of the character's name) encouraged Joe loudly and directly to go on. I wonder if this could be edited to be more subtle. Enjoyed it!

I think with tighter editing and work done on the sound this could be really good. Nice performances.

Nicely shot, for me music is a little 'on the nose' - try it without. The actor playing the male nurse is great!
